Hello! I am hoping someone can help me! I have a 10 year old cat that I have had for years. He is a mellow, laid back guy that has never messed outside of his box before, even during "stressfull" times(relocation, when my BF moved in, around other pets). Just recently, my mom brought me an heirloom antique sewing machine, and he has started peeing around it. He's neutered, so no spray, just pee. After this happened I cleaned the iron legs and foot with bleach/and vinegar. And two nights ago my BF noticed some poo in the same spot. I dont think he's ill(nose still wet, eyes bright, ears not hot, no change in diet or eating), I just dont get it. I'm not sure what to do, or how to make him stop! Maybe some other pet lover has had the same problem and has good advice! I love him too much to give him up, but I cannot live in a urine soaked home!

First take him to the vet to rule out any medical issues. You may need to put the sewing machine in a seperate room and close the door. If he can smell another animal on the sewing machine, he is going to mark all around it, and it will be hard to get him to stop if he has access to the machine.

Possible bladder infection I would advise taking him to the vet if his health isn't a problem he may be trying to tell you that he needs more than one litter box. Try putting several boxes around the home and once an hour or so take him and place him in the box and praise him highly. Maybe he will get the hint. My 17 year old siamese is doing the same thing now and I added two additional boxes I have four cats and now have 6 boxes, I know it seems extreme but cleaning the boxes is less taxing than trying to get urine out of the carpet. I wish I could give you some magic solution but there isn't. I have been toying with the idea of having Moo-Chi to sleep but that is such a heartbreaking choice. So I know where you are coming from. Best of luck hon...

Seems to me that sewing machine has some sort of smell that is attracting the cat to it to defecate or urinate. Have you tried cleaning the area with baking soda and vinegar? Those disenfect and eliminate orders very well.

I have three persians that if the cat box has too many clumps or other waste they use the floor right outside the box which can be a pain but I atleast know the box needs to be tended to. (its in the dining room so no big deal) I don't think that is your problem though, I believe your cat is smelling soemthing that bothers him or attracts him to pee or poo around it. Can you try cleaning it with the baking soda and vinegar and then treat it with something that carpet cleaners or vet's office sell to hinder the cats new bad habit.

I hope this helps, good luck, let me know what works, I might need to use it myself! LOL ;)

My male cat goes on anything when his litter box is not up to his standards. It's so very annoying. In your case, I think its something to do with the sewing machine. You said you cleaned it with vinegar? Maybe the smell of vinegar reminds him of another male cat. Try using something like lemon juice instead. Lemons smell nothing like cat and a doubt he would be attracted or offended by the smell (plus its a good antibacterial).

Hi there! You should definatley take him to the vet he could have some sort of medical problem. They can get urinary tract infections. This will cause them to go oustide the litter box either becuase they cannot make it in time or because they are associating the litterbox with pain now. Also have you changed the litter or litter box location this could also do it. Cats get very set in their ways. Good Luck

Has he been checked for a urinary tract an infection? that's the reason. you may could have that checked with the help of the vet. He may additionally not basically like the muddle. If that's the clumping scented style, attempt switching to generic clay muddle (like Johnny Cat). He could like that greater. 2 muddle packing containers may well be maximum suitable additionally in case you basically have one.

For the most part you have gotten some excellent advice...your cat's age may play into this also.....as they age they become a bit less fastidious about their toilet habits and may also have beginning kidney issues. ...common in older cats.

As for the sewing machine, it may not be smell but rather sound...have you operated the machine?

something about that sewing machine doesn't smell right to him. you can go the the pet store and buy some spray that cats don't like. you can't smell it, but they can. good luck!

Not to sound to rude or anything, but maybe you should clean it more often... twice a day perhaps. Good luck!
