I've been in this situation a dozen times - I'm liking a girl, but then a friend tells me he's all about her (not knowing I liked her). So what, should I back off just because he said it first?
Generally yes. I mean its one thing if you have really strong feelings for the girl, in which case go for it.
In my case its generally a casual liking, and I'd rather keep my friend then get a girl for a night. Although sometimes you can just make it a 'best man wins' challenge, and have fun with it agreeing that there will be no hard feelings after.
