There is a particular area that one or mor of our animals like to 'use'. We have tried to get the scent up with pet odor removers from Petsmart and have even shampooed the carpet. Either they KEEP peeing there or the odor remains.

What is the best thing for me to do in either case? Thanks!!

You may need more than one litter box. I have four cats and six boxes. You may need to put the boxes in two locations. When the cat does pee, repeatedly blot and water and blot most people stop to soon when doing this. Cats urine is very concentrated and turns to crystals when dry. After I blot a gazillion times I mix white vinegar and water and re wet and blot a few times. Vinegar had natural odor distroying properties. I am going through this now with my 17 year old precious Moo-Chi. Good luck!

I think the main reason the odor keeps "returning" is that the flooring underneath the carpet has become permeated with urine. You'll probably need to take up the carpet and clean the floor with a strong scented cleaner. You may also want to look at the backing of the carpet. It may have a stain that the shampooing didn't take care of. In that case, you'll need to clean the back side of the carpet.

There are products on the market that are supposed to prevent cats from spraying and peeing in those areas. You may want to check at your local pet store.

Good luck

Kitty might have a urinary track infection. I found out last week that my cat has struvite crystals in her urine. She was peeing on the carpet, couch, chair, so I took her to the vet to see if she is bad or if something medical was wrong. I'm so glad I did. It can be fatal. (Now that I know about it, I think the cat I had as a kid died of the same thing, except his got so bad it caused a blockage, which caused kidney failure and death.) To fix the problem, she is on a low magnesium diet called Medi-Cal Dissolution which allows the urine to dissolve the crystals, and will have to be put on maintenance food after 3 months.

To get rid of urine smell/stains, try Nature's Miracle. I'm on my 2nd bottle and I just got my cat 2 months ago!!!!!! It's Natural so it's non-toxic to kids and pets.

use a mixture of peroxide and baking soda, the chemical mixture works great to get out any smell, even skunk. Of course you risk discoloring the carpet, but at this point, it would be better than that cat pee stink...then put some tin foil over the area, or crinkle paper, something that would make noise so they wont want to walk on it...if you have multiple cats it could be getting another litter box for them to use seperately, and be very very viligant about keeping the boxes so clean they shine...
good luck

If the urine has soaked into the carpet's backing, you're pretty much stuck.

As far as making them stop, the best method I've tried for cats in particular is to spray lemon juice on any spot that you don't want them to "use". You may want to dilute it a little bit if you use it on furniture.

Hope this is of some help.

Chances are if you dont get that smell out they will continue to urinate on it. There is something called Nature's Miracle that really takes out smells. You will need a lot of it, but it works. Also if you can try and move your furniture around so your cats cant get to that spot anymore. Good Luck.

I got a catalog from Harriet Carter, whoever she is, it features a product to clean and deodorize and a black light to show any stains that may remain. Don't know if it's any good or not.
As for the cats buy a nice tazer.

If you go to a Pest Control distributer, you can buy a red peper type spray- it should keep them from spraying whereever you put it.. or try any kind of pepper in that area. Then have your rugs professionaly cleaned.
