Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, used his weekly television broadcast to urge public school teachers to use their positions of influence to both promote Christianity in class and to evangelize to students after class. Staver stated that “teachers and public school administrators are essentially domestic missionaries” and that since teachers spend more time with children than pastors or even their parents, Christian teachers have a “tremendous opportunity” to reach children. Staver urged teachers not to simply pray privately before or after school, but to seek to impart their Christian views to their students and take advantage of their position because “Christian educators really have a missionary opportunity in the public schools.”

This man is an important political figure and was personally invited to the White House last month. Outrage! What do you think?

This is the kind of selfish individual who is the enemy of every patriotic believer in religious freedom. He cares nothing about the differing beliefs or philosophies of these children, nor does he care about giving them a better education. He sees school as a "missionary opportunity," a chance to force his own favorite brand of superstition on a captive audience of schoolchildren.

That's patently un-American.

California street gangs (the Bloods and the Cripps) are well known to have put many members into the US military to obtain training and members.

The Ku Klux Klan were also well known for recruiting young and encouraging people to enter a variety of professions to help legitimize their idiotology.

The most repugnant groups, including the "Liberty Counsel" have always had to recruit surreptitiously.

Geez...

I'm an Atheist, but I'm all for having bible study as an extracurricular activity for after school. However, I'm completely against teachers using their positions in the classroom to push their own religious beliefs onto the students. This man needs to review the constitution and the Treaty of Tripoli.

What if one of the teachers decided to take this "tremendous opportunity" to tell all the chit'lins that religion is crap? How would you feel about that?

Jeez and crackers...what this article describes will lead to (1) teachers getting fired and (2) school boards getting sued.

Well, somebody with common sense and the courage to speak. He risks going to the tank for saying that, or, I think that here they call it "the slammer"
I suppose that his next broadcast will be from the slammer. It is beyond absurd that here, in the so called free country, praying in schools is worse than a crime .
You asked me what do I think, so there you have it. Enjoy

I don't think teachers should be so afraid to talk about religion that they can't teach an objective social studies, history, or literary lesson...but preaching during class time is inappropriate.

Were my daughter in the class of a teacher who took his advice, I would use my position to deprive the teacher of a license to teach...

Unless the teacher gave me the opportunity to use a class period to disabuse the students of the teacher's folklore and mythology.

I think this is reasonable since the atheists and witches and Muslims all have a say at public schools.

Trully disgusting.

I despise theists like him.

If it was a muslim who insisted that Islam be preached in school every self-righteous christian would be up in arms. But they are far too stupid to consider this from someone else's position when it is their mythology being forced down people's throats.

Looking from way up here in Canada it looks like the only people who area allowed to Evangelize in the USA schools are;

Those promoting Halloween, muslims, and the Rainbow Guys.

( LOOKS LIKE--- I am not there to know for sure.)
