My b/f was told to take Prilosec OTC once daily to prevent acid
buildup, GERD - it seems to be causing him to have diarrhea (sorry if this is TMI, but this is a serious question) What can he take in place of the Prilosec? I know it's a Proton Pump Inhibitor; are there other brands that he can take without the side effects?
Thanks for any info -

zantac is not a PPI, but if it helsp then great, other things that can be tried are mylanta, maalox, gaviscon etc. he can raise te head end of the bed with a brick, that also helps and most important avoid things that precipitate reflux, good luck

I also take Prilosec OTC for long-term use. I believe the box says stop after 14 days because this is the recommendation for people who aren't taking it under a doctor's advice. As one of the proton pump inhibiting meds, Prilosec OTC can be useful for treatment of such conditions as GERD (reflux) in the long-term.

He could try Protonix. It's prescription-only, so he'd have to get it through his doctor.

Iberogast is supposed to work pretty well. DGL and glutamine are good for stomach problems.
