Columbine High School showed that police have their own agenda ...... later on an even greater scale the disaster in New Orleans showed beyond any doubt that the public cannot expect the police to protect them.

Has the USA become a total police state where the child's parent cannot deside for themselves what is best for their family.

I agree on one side society wants paents to step up and take more accountability for their children .... and rightly so ..... yet, they want parents to blindly allow them carte blanc control over our children and have no accountability.

One element that defines a democratic society is a police force that:

is subject to the rule of law embodying values respectful of human dignity and individual liberties, rather than the wishes of a powerful leader or ethnocentric ideologies.

can intervene in the life of citizens only under limited, totally transparent and carefully controlled circumstances and is publicly accountable.

hmmmm sticky......we could say yes especially when you consider the fact that now if you spank your child you could loose them and go to jail....but on the other hand who do we have to thank for that?...those that did abuse their children by not spanking but crossing the line to abuse...yes this is a tough one...this is only an example but you know that it goes way beyond just this issue

No the USA is not a total police state...but I do not believe that all police officers are benevolent civil servants by any means. Many choose that occupation to get away with their own crimes and/or be an authority figure.

In my own experience I find it to be the opposite.
I see so often where parents shield their children from being responsible for wrongdoings to prevent them from being properly reprimanded by the police and judicial system so these kids grow up thinking they can get away with whatever they want and mommy and daddy will get them out of whatever trouble they get themselves into.
