send the food back if it's cold or cooked not to your order preference? Like a steak over done. Or a dish over cooked. I believe you should but some people are just to embarrsed. Why?

I ALWAYS send it back....if I wanted crappy food, I'd stay home and cook!

Some people are afraid of/don't like confrontation.

Some people are embarresed because they think that they got the food now, and they dont want to be a bother to the staff. Personally, I would call over a waiter, and ask them to replace it. I am a paying customer. I dont believe in being rude when I tell them though. Even the cooks make mistakes, and I believe that we should do them the courtesy of letting them fix their work. If I get something, send it back, and it takes another half-hour to get my food, I start to get annoyed. The first time, if its a nice restaurant, I can understand taking a half hour, but the second time around, the food should come faster. I also believe in still giving a tip if the food that i got the second time was better. If I get the same dish back, and the same problem persists, then Ill just send it back and leave. I believe in giving the restaurant a second chance, but not a third.

At the same time, you shouldnt send something back if its just because you didnt like the food. Then, you either eat a little, and then throw away the rest, or you have the staff pack it up, and either give it to someone else, or throw it out. I dont think that you should make the chef redo the order just because you didnt like the food, only if the food is not sufficiently prepared.

NEVER. I have never and will never send it back. I've worked in a restaraunt before, and I KNOW what goes on back there. And yes, it happens ALOT more than you think. No matter how polite you are about it, the line cook in back will get extremely pissed about it. Line cooks are a rather shady bunch to begin with, and in general don't play well with others. You people that send food back are kidding yourself.

When an order is wrong or ill-prepared I will politiely get it taken off of the bill. If the waiter handles this with no problem, then he/she gets tipped as if it's still on the bill plus more. If there is a hassal (which there RARELY is) then I get the manager involved. Depending on how the manger handles it, I will then either take my complaint further up the chain of command (if the previous trips to the establishment were just fine) or if it's my first time there, I just don't go back.

As somebody who worked in a restaurant a long time ago, I'm always cautious about sending food back. Kitchens are often chaotic places, and many cooks dislike re-doing dishes and some take offense to food that gets returned. The more unscrupulous workers will often mess with the food that gets returned, dropping it on the floor or spitting in it. However, you as a customer paid for the food that you ordered and have a right to expect it to be correct. If the food isn't that bad, don't nitpick. If it is beyond wrong, send it back.

Actually just last week I ordered a 20.00 steak med well. It came to me not at all as I had ordered. I didn't want to be a bother. But the waitress asked was there anything wrong so I told her. Her,along with the managers had no problem at all fixing me another. In fact they insisted themselves that I get a better one properly cooked. I felt more comfortable and they let me keep the other steak. I wasn't necessarily embarrassed. But the waitress was so nice that I didn't want to put any pressure on her. Or seem snobby about it.

Because they don't wish to be viewed as "pushy." But some people are afraid to do so because the person in the kitchen may spit on the food. Best way to do it, is to be very, very polite and ask if it wouldn't be too much trouble to heat the food a little or whatever and say, "I'm sorry to bother you and I appreciate your kindness" BEFORE the waiter takes it back to the kitchen! I worked in a ritzy supermarket for the "elite" members of this City back in the 60s and I used to see how some of the guys in the butcher department and even others rubbed their genitals or spit on the foodstuff the clients made them get from the back instead of taking what was on display and recently put out... they just wanted "special treatment..." and got "special" TREATMENT.

NO way do we send food back...

We know far to often that cooks have then pissed on, snotted on, or done some other horrible thing to the food... AND YES IT IS TRUE... One of our local restaurants got caught for this... lab tested the food even and results were URINE ON THE STEAK... to which one employee was fired!

If our food is bad... we tell the server... leave her/him their tip if they did a fine job and then NEVER GO THERE AGAIN !!

i dont think embarrassment has anything to do with it. ive sent things back a couple times but then im always nervous the cook did something to it the second time around, like spit in it or something, so generally i just deal with it. if the food is cold i leave a smaller tip than i normally would because that is usually the waitstaff's fault, not the cooks.

I ver rarely eat steak - I order it well done because that is the way I like it - so if it comes out with pink I send it back. Pretty much anything else I just don't worry about unless it is just a complete disaster!

I try to order things that can't be messed up- like a salad or chicken tenders. Because if I order steak it's always under cooked for my tastes!

I'm scared that if I send it back that they'll spit on it or something.

Some people fear if they send food back it will come back with something done to it, such as spit or worse. Others just don't like confrontation. I think if it is done in the proper manner, you can save the cook grief and get what you are paying for.
