I've recently started rollerblading with my dogs. Heck, I've recently /learned/ to rollerblade. (as of a couple days ago)It's going very well, and I know how to keep my dogs under control when blading 'n all that stuff. Don't lecture me about how dangerous it is or how to handle my dogs. Sorry if I come across as mean, but I know /someone/ will have to lecture...
Anyway, my husky/chow mix is about 8 months. My black lab is about 2 years. How long should I blade with each of them daily? I don't want to put too much strain on either one. I blade with them seperately. And is it alright on their paws? I know I should get some paw guard for them. I will when I can get some money. (I'm 15) But I always check their paws and make sure not to over do it. Will their paws be alright without the paw guard? Or is it must have?

Thanks, all. =)
And thanks, cargrl. =) I appreciate you informing me of that. Sorry about your fall. =/ I don't mind what you said. I just didn't want an answer like, "You shouldn't be blading, it's dangerous, the dogs will trip you, blah blah blah." Yeah... xD But I keep them under control. My lab actually says by my side. She's not a puller at all. I've actually got to teach her to pull. xP And I keep a pinch collar on whatever dog I'm going with so that if I need to slow down quickly, I just give a tug on the pinch collar and it slows him down as much as I need and prevents him from pulling me left or right. I attatch the lead to both the regular collar (soon to be a harness when I can get one) and the pinch collar, so he can pull me and I can slow him down when needed. =)

When you look at their pads, make sure they're pretty rough, you don't want them to be too soft if you are going to run them w/ rollerblades. I wouldn't suggest going more than a couple miles with each until their pads are nice and hard. If you run them too much (even once their pads harden up) you could rip the top layer off of their pads. You shouldn't need paw guards unless you are going to go a really long distance with them. It also depends on what surface they are running on. If you are on a sidewalk and they can run on the grass beside it, they can run for longer. But concrete will wear the pads down faster than anything, even asphalt is better to run them on than concrete.

Your dogs will love rollerblading with you! What you need to do is condition them just like a person would. You can't expect them to start out running 2 miles a day. Start at about 1/2 a mile, if they're good with that, go to 1 mile. You need to keep an eye on them for signs of fatigue or sore paws from running on pavement. Dogs are very often stoic and won't let you know it's too much for them until it's too late - so it's up to you - you know your dogs best.

I'm not sure where you're located, but be careful of pavement that is too hot for the dogs' paws. Also, with the younger dog, I wouldn't do more than 10-15 minutes until the dog is mature and stopped growing (18-months old or so) so you do not put unneeded stress on the joints and ligaments. Otherwise, be careful and have fun!

Dogs paws are made for hard surfaces...so I think they should be just fine. In fact, animals with claws need hard surfaces to grind down their claws. The pads on their feet are pretty tough. So I wouldn't worry! You can always call a vet!

I know you don't want to hear it but I thought I could handle my chow mix while I was roller blading and now I have this huge scar on my right knee from it. The dog ran a bit fast I fell and then he dragged me for about 10 ft. Have fun with it but be warned.
