why is he so sad?

there's this guy who has had a revolving door relationship with this girl of over 10 years, well anyway he is now with someone else and the ex has found out about it. when given an ultimatum between the current and ex, he chose the current, but now the ex is refusing his calls... if he made his choice why is he so sad? is he scared maybe she has shut the doors for good. I think he has cheated on the current girlfriend with the ex before.

I think he's sad because deep inside he lacks maturity, and is insecure. He's been playing with the emotions of 1 girl for over 10 years, and then started something with yet another girl, while still being in contact with the "ex". He cheats and lies and isn't fully present in his current relationship.
Why is he sad? Because he knows his behavior towards these 2 girls has been shameful. He knows what he really is- and he's not proud of himself. He's also dysfunctional.
