Put the computer in a common family area. Put a password on it. Be around while the kids are on the computer and SUPERVISE them.

At least you're showing concern and asking. That's more than a LOT of people do and why myspace has it's problems.... People not monitoring and teaching their kids about proper online behaviors.

If you can't be around, then there are keylogging programs you can get that will tell you every single keystroke made on the computer while you're away. Look for them at your local computer software shop or http://www.download.com

I had this same situation come up with all of my teens. They must give me their passwords or no myspace. That's the rule they don't have to like it but that's the way it is. I need to protect them as best I can. Also the computer is situated in an area of the house that the monitor can be viewed by anyone at any given time from different angles in the room . Too many predators are now surfing the myspace page. It was a good idea but it has gotten out of control. Don't feel guilty or bad for doing what is necessary to keep your kid safe. Your teen will get over it or can wait until he/she moves out on his own to do what he/she wants.
Hang In There Mom ! You are right to want to monitor. It doesn't mean you will spy everyday. Just let your child know that on any given day you will be checking the space.

every parent ought to install a keystroke logger. It is software that you can buy over the 'net. Once installed, you type in a password and it will display all of the keystrokes that the last user entered. No more secret passwords, no more midnight private email..

As for what site the kids are looking at, you can set your computer so that only you can delete historys. every kid knows how to hide the web history, but this can be overcome with some simple settings. I run a computer lab fulll of 12 year old, so i learn more every day.

Well if they dont have it set up as private you can just go to myspace search them by email, name, or display name and just look at thier page. However, you must have a myspace page to look at thier pictures, and if they do have it as private just make up a page and ask to be thier friend.

first of ask yourself why are you doing this is your teen son or daughter doing something their not supose to?
you should think that invading something like that will come ith conciquences, plus you may find stuff you may have not wanted to know is your relationship with your child that bad that you can't trust them? why and why not if not then stop trying and leave them be trust in them with good judgement if not they will defy that and give you reasons tobe worried trust me i was one of them. the teens whose mother tuaght her all the right from wrog and still she invaded my personal stuff likea mad woman and i used to defy her. its not healthy if you have no reasons insted ask them openly kindly ith an open mind and heart and approch with ease not hostility youll see then youll get all your answers . i know now me and my mother have an open honest relationship and we havent been any closer since
