You could have picked the fleas up from anywhere, and as soon as they found your cat the problem would have escalated. It is important to de-flea your cat regularly even if it does stay inside to prevent this from happening again. Also, flea eggs can live in the carpet for up to 2yrs, so it would be a good idea for you to treat the house aswell.

It doesn't matter if they don't go out all the time. One minute is long enough for a few fleas to hop on for a ride. Fleas can also get at cats through screen doors and windows, and you and other people (and other animals) can bring fleas into your home on your clothes and shoes.

Put your cat on a preventative like Frontline Plus. Then you'll need to treat your home to stop the flea life cycle. This page has some good suggestions:

Please don't use OTC flea treatments. They can be toxic and are often inaffective. Even flea collars.

Fleas can come in through the screen windows or come in from the yard on your clothes. Some years are worse for flea problems. You can treat the cat with some great products from your vet however if they return you may have to treat the house and their are flea bombs you can use. You would have to leave the house for the day and take the cat with you, but I have had good luck with these

Fleas can come in through screens and you can bring them in on your clothing or body. And a cat doesn't have to spend much time outdoors to pick some up.

Use Advantage or Frontline for the cat whenever you become aware of the presence of fleas. Like all insects the fleas are more active during the warmest months.

They could have jumped on you from anyplace outside of your home without you knowing, then into your carpet or directly on the cat.
They can come in from your screen door and right onto the inocent cat waiting on the inside
Any time a pet is at the vet or boarded, they almost always will get fleas.
Or, if you have a dog that goes outside.
If you cat eats the flea larve, they can get tape worms

The cat has been in a wierd section, or perhaps in spite of the indisputable fact that the frontline could have killed any fleas unquestionably residing on the cat, yet whilst the cat grow to be carrying flea EGGS, those might nonetheless be lively. there's a product referred to as Capstar which you be conscious as quickly as u see a flea, and can be used thoroughly on the side of the frontline, and that's in accordance to my vets, here in South Africa. The non-ingesting is a topic while you're particular the cat isn't ingesting any of the kitten or pup nutrition once you at the instant are not finding. attempt diverse manufacturers of nutrition, Cats are notoriously fussy animals, whether they have been strays. with a bit of luck it is largely a era of adjustment. attempt feeding him break away the different animals, the place he feels private according to probability. for sure if this maintains then he could be taken to the vet. If the cat has been without notice limited, he could not poop. attempt taking the cats temperature, (stick the thermometer up its bum - particular, gross i be attentive to....) the temperature could be a hundred and one.5F or 38.6C. anyhow, wish this helps! stable luck!

you need to spray the yard as well as the inside of your house with a good flea killer, then take your cat to the vet and get it on Frontline or one like it....every time your cat goes outside, hungry fleas get on it and bring them into the house. Every time WE go outside, hungry fleas jump on us and we carry them back into the house......it's a no win cycle for those of us fighting the battle. If you get fleas REAL bad, call a good Bug-Rid company. Fleas have a new life-cycle every 2 weeks.......

All it takes is one single flea to get into the house. Usually they jump on people and gain entrance that way. Try to get Advantage or Frontline from the veterinarian. In my opinion they are the only two medications that really get rid of them.

Fleas can travel in the wind, my dog also only gets out in the garden, but because it's hot here she's forever getting fleas. PS a tip I heard to help get rid of them, place a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner it will kill them in the vacuum, ask your vet for frontline or something and wear a flea collar on your cat.
