Not for the disease itself. Usually some complications developed from the disease or as a result of damaged immune system.

I have lupus myself and have done lots of reseach. It doesn't kill you directly it kills your organs and as a result it can cause death. It is extremely important to take care of yourself and get rest. Check out lupus.org it is a good resource, they will send you information for free. It is not the quantity of life I worry about but the quality. I have know people with lupus that have lived years with it (very miserable) and others a very short time. If it does in fact attack your kidneys they can do transplants and they say you are better off after. Be aware the medication can cause more serious complications than the disease. Try to live your life to it's fullest and remember you have the disease it does not have you. I have 2 young boy and I plan to do everything I can to stick around and function. Educate yourself and those close to you. It is important that they know what is happening to you, it gives them more empathy instead of thinking your a wine bag. Good luck

Lupus does not usually kill the patient, but it makes their life difficult. The best discussion of Lupus I have seen is in Prescription For Natural Cures by Balch and Stengler, and lists a lot of possible remedies and advice.
