The obvious answer to the question is because there is a gap! I have a mini-visor above the rear-view but the sun always finds a way through. Ever noticed how bus drivers have a roller blind that they can pull down? I want one of those!

Design issue. Have a close look at how a typical visor is fitted. If the gap was non-existent, the hinge point would be too weak. I sorted the problem by taping a strip of gaffer tape onto the top of the visor. Works a treat.

It doesn't, really.
It's just that you only notice it when it does because it hurts your eyes! I don't know what the brand name is but I bought this dark see-through shade film that sticks to the inside of the windshield & goes right between the two visors, blocking the sunlight through the gap. Perhaps a local auto parts store carries it - it must be a very common problem, as old as driving cars.
Good Luck!

Sod's law. I put my tax disc up there to block a bit of the sun. Nasty Police man told me that I had to move it. Nice Police man told I'd be hard pushed to get a conviction because you can read it from both sides of the car. Sorry what was the question again.....?
