I normally don't have periods while breastfeeding and taking progestrin only birth control pills. But would taking a regular birth control pill change that and make me have a period when I usually wouldn't while breastfeeding?

The regular birth control were prescribed by a doctor to treat a prolonged postpartum bleeding problem. Not as a way to protect against pregnancy. It will not hurt baby, it just has the possiblity of lessening breast milk, which it didn't.

If you take birth control while breast feeding, you can get a period.

A normal pill would cause your period to start again. It will also dry up your breast milk! I can't imagine that an OBGYN would prescribe a "normal" pill for you unless you were trying to dry your milk up quickly. I actually had a period while breastfeeding all of my children but I usually avoided hormonal birth control while breastfeeding except for with my first.

I don't think so, but I think a regular pill has too much in the way of hormones for the baby. That is why they give the low dose pills for breastfeeding. Did you know those low does pills are only 80% effective??

You don't get your period because your body is producing prolactin, which produces the milk. But some women get their periods and breast feed -- everybody is different.
