Hey ladythugs...,

I answered your question yesterday too. It is true, this is not Genealogy - you should post this question in Finance, Business, Family or some other economic category.

But another approach to getting money for being Native American Indian would be to go to the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut - they hire Native Americans with evidence, and provide a house too. They are excellent to their employees, and you will get money for being Indian, just not from the Government of the US, it will be from the Governing Body of that reservation.

first of all, you have to be able to prove affiliation with a recognized native American tribe...If you can prove that you are what you say you are, and are enrolled in a tribe you should check with the agency there, they would know of any monies available, I am an enrolled member of the Salish Kootenai tribes of Montana, and the only money i get is called a "per capita" check of $400.00 every 4 months. I don't live on the reservation so i am ineligible for things like housing, medical, education, loans, etc. i would have to establish 12 months residency to be eligible for those benefits.. But back to your original question, I do not believe that just by being "Indian" the government will hand you money...good luck to you though...

i'm nearly 3/4 native and i still do not qualify. my father was full blooded and my mother was half. i was adopted, and my adoptive parents tried to get benefits for schooling and whatnot, but they said i do not qualify. i tried again about 20 years later and got the same story. even though i have a paper from the bureau of indian affairs stating that i am native american.

i don't think they just hand out money either. but you can get help with school ,housing(which i don't think it's too good) and medical. stand proud in who you are and make your own way through life. nothing is free. and you should certainly not wait around for handouts. i really think the days of feeling sorry for the native are over. it's time to rise above all of that and just be glad to be alive and live in a country that allows freedom of religion, speech, education and the opportunity to have so much more than what your ancesters had.

Try to google your question. Now for my answer, You must first be able to identify your tribe. If you cannot do this, then, forget persuing this. My sons father is a Havasu, their grandmother is from the Tannana tribe (sp). Soooooo, you will have to do some research in your family. My sons recieved 300 dollars a year until they both turned 18. It really isn't much. They got more when they lived on the Havasu reservation. But do remember, it wasn't much. The bigger payoff was when they went to college, there was financial help. AND WE HAVE GIVEN BACK THROUGH COMMUNITY WORK.

Part Indian? What makes you think that you deserve it? You might be entitled to it if you were 100% Indian and lived on a Reservation, you could get scholarships and such. Do you think part black people and part japanese people get money for being what they are? No, not unless you're on welfare or disabled. I'd say if you want money from the Government, you'd better bust a rain dance.

Why should you or anyone else just get free money because you're part Indian or part this or that? Get a job like the rest of us and work. I don't think you can get money from any government source.

Did you ever notice how many of us whities hate Indians? If you keep trying to sponge off the taxpayers, you'll only make our prejudice worse.

Wow. You are obviously very deticated to your ancestory, kudos for that. This is pathetic. You really should be ashamed of yourself for trying to collect in such a fashion. You need to read up on your ancestory.

you can get free college if you are 25% american indian. i dont think you can just get free money for being indian, its not that simple. if you havent noticed, the government is not here to help people, its based on screwing people over. they dont care about the people, they just want your vote so they can get in office and make more money. for example, GEORGE BUSH
