I walk him at least twice a day 1.5 miles in the morning and 1.5 miles in the evening. But during the day I would like to put him on his 50 foot chain for around 15 minutes so that he will do his "during the day" thing. How can I get him to go outside without me standing right there next to him?

Leave him outside but watch him through a window that he can't see you watching him from. Wait until he has done his thing and when you let him in give him a treat. He is just spoiled and expects you to walk him every time he has to go to the bathroom

Why do you want him to do it when you are not there? It sounds like you have a perfectly housetrained dog to me! If he poops when you are not there you will have to search around the yard to find the poop. Some dogs will only go while they are out for a walk. But, if you really want him to go without you present, keep him in his crate and give him lots of water. Then, about 20 - 30 minutes later put him outside in a fenced yard and go back and watch him from the window. HE will really have to go, so he should use it without you.

Sounds like he has gotten used to having company while he does business. Leave him out longer than 15 mins. If someone told me I had only 15 mins to poo I think I would wait to.

your dog likes to have your company so he will not go toilet unless your standing with him. your dog dosnt feel right if you are not with him so all you have to do is give him a treat or let him into your garden then go inside and see if your dog does a poop or pee. your dog will then feel better and will not need you to watch it.

He is behaving in this way out of fear..When he is alone, he knows that the 'boogiman' can find him by his scent, when he 'goes'..
However, he will only go when you are with him, as he knows that you are his protector and will chase away the boogieman..
The behavior is not likely to change until he becomes more secure..

If he has to go bad enough he will go. Don't play into his behavior or he will think he can get you to do anything. I would just continue what you are doing eventually he will learn to go on his own.
