I want to finish my graduate degree but I will have a little one in a matter of 2 weeks. I don'ty plan on going back until Summer '07. Is it hard to attend school at night and have a baby?

Depending on what credits you need and if it's an option I suggest on line courses. My school offers them and they are easy because you basically do the work when you have the time to do it--before it's due of course. Ask your school if they offer these classes. Some of my classes I will have to go to school for. I'm going to try to CLEP (take a test and pass the whole course--getting the need credits) some of my classes. I am also going to take courses that are quicker. I am currently taking a night class (son is seven months, child in our care is five years) and it isn't that hard. I took the class that is longer (4 hours) a night and is just one night a week instead of going 3 times a week with only an hour long. I just like it more because I am only away one evening instead of three. I hope this helps you! Congratulations and Good Luck!

As far as being hard--it will be only as hard as you make it.

Yes. Very hard. But not impossible. Before you commit to night school you might try checking out Day schools that have on campus day-care. Many do as colleges now have courses for people interested in whats called early childhood education, and Daycare is part of their curriculum. Your baby will be still under a year old though, and may be too young for this. Maybe a little later is better in your situation. Congratulations and Good luck.

How long until you get your masters. It really depends on your priorities on whether you should finish now. Did you already begin the fall semester? If you did I would say stick with it. I am sure you can talk to your professors and see if you can skip class for a couple of weeks to get readjusted..some are understanding. If you havent started this fall I would definately start back up in the Spring. Like the other person said, right now it is easier cuz she will sleep alot. I have 4 kids, and a full time job and full time student. It is much harder even though they are in school. They require much help with their studies and social activities. It is a sacrifice I have to make now because I didnt go sooner. There are many programs that will help you out right now, I would take full advantage of them. You can get free daycare, childcare loans, maybe some womans programs for mothers...you just gotta talk to your advisor or university counselor.

It's exactly what i'm doing right now. I had my baby in Apr '05 and i started school again in June of this year. We live with my husban'd parents, so it makes it easier. But i think it's a great arrangement. Most people get off work around the time u go to school, so there are babysitters everywhere, grandmas, dads, aunts/uncles. waiting so long to go back was also a good idea for me. With her being older, it is much less of a task to ask someone to care for a 9 or 12 month old instead of a baby. Good luck!

Not if you have a husband at home. I'm in the opposite situation. My husband has been going to school non stop for 4 years now. He's finsihed up in december then going on in January for his masters for another 15 months. I'm at home anywhere between 1-4 nights a week alone with my daughter, depending on his class schedule each semester. We have a baby due at the end of December so I'll have 2 kids alone a few nights a week for a while. I don't mind though, it will all be worth it at the end!

YES its hard to go to school no matter what time of day or night and have a newborn or even be pregnant at that... I was in the middle of finishing nursing school being pregnant, had my daughter 5 weeks before spring break, and went to school 3 days a week 12 hours shifts with a newborn...its VERY hard but if your motivated enough you can do it

Its hard to do anything when you have a baby, but thats part of growing up and being a mom. It will take hard work and dedication but you can do it. Every mother has a battle with school or work and sometimes both when raising a family. Its all worth it in the end. If you ever get depressed or think you cant do it.. take one look at the smile on your babies face and it will get you through it.
