I had this same problem with a dog I rescued. First always make sure that he is going poo before you put him in the crate, I know at times this is very difficult to do, but try your best. Second make sure his crate is the right size. His crate is too big if he can poo in one end and then go lie on the other end. Laslty, it is kind of harsh, but when he has an accident in the crate make him stay in there for a bit instead of rushing to get him out. He may think that if he goes in his crate that it is a way to make you get him out of his crate, so have him stay there for awhile. Practice with him while you are able to stay home and monitor him a bit in his crate. Good Luck, this worked for me.

You should start re enforcing your house training. When he does the deed in the crate does he get messy? If not, the crate is too big. He has room to do his business and not lay in it. A dog will not soil his sleeping area but if there is enough room, he will let it fly. Do you have an opportunity to check on him through out the day? If so, then try to make it home 1 or 2 times during the day to let him out. Praise and love him for doing business outside but since you cannot catch him in the act you cannot discipline him for doing business in his crate, he wont know why your disciplining him.

if your dog has a crate that could fit two of him in it then it is too big...he poops in their because he can poop in one area and not be bothered with it in another. Get a smaller crate that allows him enough room to turn around and enough room to lift his head, but do not go any bigger than that. Once he's in a smaller cage and has no room to poop other htan the spot he sleeps on, he should stop. Also, try to make sure he has been trained to hold it for the length of time he will be in the crate. Feed him an hour or so before you go to work, but let him out 20mins before you leave. that way the food stimulates his bowels and he goes to the bathroom before you leave, lessening the chance that he'll go in the crate. Also, don't offer any food to him while he's in the crate only small treats.

How long is he in the crate? I've heard of people leaving dogs in crates for 8, 10, 12+ hours!!! Don't leave him in the crate longer than you'd expect him to normally hold it.
Also how big is the crate? The idea is the crate should be a comfortable size for him to lay down but not too big. Dogs prefer not to poo in their own beds. If it's too big he can poo off in one corner and sleep in the other. If it is small and he's pooing where he's forced to sleep, definitely shorten his time in the crate without a break.

Your crate is too large. The crate should be just large enough fo the dog to stand turn around and lay down. Dogs will not mess if they can not get away from it.

Does he have too much space in his crate? A dog should only have just enough room to stand up and turn around. Too much space allows the dog the relieve himself in one part of the cage, and have room to lay down in another.

Make his crate smaller. Also make sure he poops before you put him into the crate, and don't leave him in there for extended periods of time.

clean it up. its better for him to go to the bathroom in his crate then in the house and if ur gone all day he has no where else to go casue there is no one to put him outside to go potty so its either go potty in his crate or go potty on the floor of the house
