Many reasons.
First, people seem to need order. They can't handle the idea that we're just on a rock hurtling through space. They really want to think there is someone "up there" with a plan.
Second, people are insecure with death. They can't imagine themselves not existing. Therefore they have created a place to be when you're dead.
Thirdly, people are indoctrinated early. Parents drill religion into their kid's heads so that when they're adult they have a hard time thinking objectively about it.
I'd like books like the Bible as a reason, but you really don't need those. They're more of a symptom of god belief than a cause of it. However, people to tend to take really old text as being truer than new text, for some reason.
Also, people like to make up answers when they have none. They'd rather say "God did it" than admit "I don't know". People are attracted to pat answers because it frees them from having to think about it themselves.
And there are many other reasons, too, though none of them rely on any god actually existing.

I think it's because they were told that as children and they tell it to their children and so on. No one stops to ask questions, it's just a tradition. I went thru that and now as an adult, i feel really stupid and ignorant for believing that. I asked my self...if there is a god, why can't I see him? i only believe what i see. Besides I am a good person and good people should not have to go thru pain for something they did not do. If god was good he would not put good people in bad positions...that's my opinion.
It's really a leap of faith. that's all. For some people knowing there is a god that listens to them is like meditating and convincing yourself and soothing yourself that everything is going to be ok thus making you feel positive. that's all.

Because there is much that we don't understand and that seems to make some meaning or pattern that we can almost grasp.
We know that if we were "running things" we would do this meanings and patterns, so it comes naturally to think that some one is arranging the universe around us, and there comes the gods or God.
It's the way we are wired, we see human characteristics and patterns in everything, whether they have them or not.

because there are so many different things.
light, gray, dark
sweet, sour, disgusting,
dogs, cats, squirells
with so many things that are all different how can anyone belief that they just appeared or even evovled without a supreme being to orchestrate it all. i am not saying whether evoloution is wrong or right but simply that it had to have been guided. if not one of two things would have happened 1) every single thing would be exactly the same and evolve exactly the same or 2) nothing would be the same there could never be two humans and there would even be millions of different ways to reproduce not just one for all species

Considering that the VAST MAJORITY of the world has believed in God is enough evidence for me that the few who don't are wrong.
God has been saving lives since the beginning.

Because blind faith in spontaneous life without direction makes no sense at all. If you were aware of the complexity of even simple proteins much less DNA you would know that. that's why man can't reproduce life in it's simplest forms in a lab from know building blocks. It's been tried and of course it failed and will continue to fail because of a terms called chirality. I say that chirality makes the beginnings of even simple life impossible by any other means than Divine control. If you don't know about how chirality works in the formation of proteins and in DNA you better check it out because your faith that science has all the answers is flawed. And give me the right to demand from you How can you reject the fact that there is a God.... Jim

We do not think, We know, we feel it, when you seek Him he will reveal Himself to you and all his secrets and mysteries. Why don't people believe. Because the god of this world has blinded them (satan), due to mind idolatry, because if they can't understand it, then it must not be real, but how can you understand God by your mind, we can barely understand ourselves. You can't seek God with your intellect you must seek him with your heart, your spirit, as He is a spirit, we are spirit beings in human form. Seek Him with all your heart, and you will find Him, knock he will answer. You cannot use your mind to figure out the spiritual things of God. Our minds are finite!

God helps people understand the world. He also gives people something to believe in giving something to live for.

Well there is an old saying that God takes care of idiots and drunks and you don't seem drunk so I guess you fall in the other category. Given the fact that even with your offensive attitude and insulting questions you still breathe, I'd say He is alive and watching out for you.
