I think a life sentence should mean a life sentence regardless of the crime committed.

Paedophilia is a horrendous crime. But there is a lot of self-righteousness out there. In prison "culture" in the UK, paedophiles are considered the lowest of the low, as if its ok to terrorise or murder an adult but not a child. One answer suggests the mind of someone with a strong (hopefully) imagination on torture techniques. The fact is, has anyone who has suggested hanging the bastards ever driven whilst intoxicated, driven carelessly so as to endanger life, or perpetuated the drug trade by purchasing illegal drugs? Because if you have, you have the potential to have taken the life of a child. And it is a sad fact that many more children are harmed, not necessarily intentionally, by careless parenting including emotional damage or physical harm from avoidable accidents.

I'm not an apologist for paedophiles - I think that it is hateful crime that the criminal justice system recognises as such. I'm a father myself. But I don't agree that we prove our own caring credentials by taking the law into our own hands. If sentences are too lenient, change the lawmakers. Lets face it, few polticians will find votes in shortening sentences for paedophiles. But if you have self righteous anger to vent and don't want to use it to change the law, then vent it at drug traffickers who ruin countless more lives, from the addicts and the lives they ruin whilst intoxicated, to the gangs, to those robbed to pay or the next fix, etc.

Don't think I'll win prizes for this answer, but I don't go with the herd.

Children yes... throw the book at them. But where do you draw the line? In todays age we send 18 year olds off to die in wars, but forbid them from drinking.

I know a school teacher who had sex with one of her Highschool students (he was 16). She was sent to a state prison for 7 years, has been denied custody or even monitored visitation rights to her son, has to wear an ankle tracking braclet wherever she goes. She is forbidden to go to public places where there might be children (like a movie theater or a restaraunt) and for the REST OF HER LIFE, she has to register as a sex offender every time she moves or travels.

Pretty rough sentance for having sex with someone who has probably been around the block a few times already anyway.

BAIL is a monetary deposit used to guarantee you show up for court.

PAROLE is when you are let out of prison ahead of your release date. Under the conditions of the parole, the felon must abide by many restrictions in order to stay out of jail.

To answer your question: No it is not fair. They should stay in jail for the entire sentence received.

No I firmly believe that anyone who commits a crime against a child should be sentenced and have to complete the full sentence. It is a proven fact that pedophiles cannot be rehabilitated. What I haven't figured out is why they do that crap to begin with. I think our gov't needs to pay more attention to this issue, and possibly begin making places specific to pediphiles to fill out their sentences. Our prisons are already overcrowded. I think they should just be locked away. They don't deserve counselors, doctors, medical, or dental, or college for that matter. They should just be left to rot for what they do to children.

Im a police officer and it frustrates me to see these sick headed people getting sentences and being let out for good behavior on certain conditions.

The conditions should be "LEFT IN JAIL TO ROT"

I think pedophiles should be given the maximum penalty. I believe in the death penalty, life in prison, and or castration. So in other words I say Jail with no Bail.

I agree with the first answer.
While we're at it, let's bring back chain gangs so we can spend the tax dollars we'd save on "beautification" stuff on more important things like education and cancer research. Then the prisoners would at least be pulling their weight for the 3 squares and the roof over their heads.
