Not public flogging in general, but as punishment for criminal offenses? The prison system is just way too overcrowded, so for various, semi-non-violent crimes I think the penalty should be public beatings. Just like over in Singapore where they have the public canings. Remember that? Singapore has an extremely low crime rate. For violent offenders, they should lock them up and then cane them.

Since there is a growing number of prison inmates found innocent each year due to DNA evidence, and the fact that the US constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment, it would not be a viable punishment. Live in Singapore and lose all your rights; the price for no crime. Of course you could absent mindedly drop a piece of trash and receive a caning from a martial arts expert. Get out of my country you Communist. LOL.

I remember the American public outcry over a couple of deliquents getting the beating their daddies neglected to give them. Since we have no respect for people or their property, the public would never stand for public flogging.
I'm for it for minor property crimes

I think it's a fabulous idea. bluffmike does have an unfortunate point though. If the government says we can't spank our kids anymore and then they grow up to be legal manaces, why would the government do anything to spank them as adults?
