I'm using a rather dated cookbook, making a banana loaf, and it calls to be baked in a moderate oven. There is also no mention of how long to bake the loaf for.

Any ideas/advice would be appreciated.

Moderate oven is usually 350 degrees.

Depending on the size pan you use, MY books say 30- 45 minutes, but each oven cooks differently. Start with 30 minutes, then go up by 5 minute intervals until done. Bake it until you notice it pulling away fromt he sides of the pan, the top is browning and firm, and oftena bread like this will get a "crack" in the top of the loaf. Banana bread can be hard to check, but you can use the tried and true method of sticking a skewer in it, if it comes out really gooey, it needs more baking.

Once you figure out the time it takes approximately, then be sure to write that down in your cookbook!

normally on the old wood stoves a moderate oven would be 300 to 325......and that would be about right a banana bread needs to bake a little longe and a bit lower temp...i would say bake until it is firm to the touchin the center as the old trick of a clean knife blade dont work on banana bread...start 1 hr
