I was given crutches a few days ago and I'm traveling on an airplane tomorrow morning. Are there any special procedures I need to do before, during, or after the flight?

When you get to the airport ask for a wheelchair. You can then be assisted thru security without waiting in line. The skycap will take you all the way to your gate. Tip him/her well!! Keep the wheelchair until boarding call and someone should take you down the ramp right to the door. You will be able to board before anyone else is called. You can use your crutches to get to your seat, or hold onto the seat backs as you go. The attendant will put your crutches either in the overhead or a closet near first class.
Also, if you haven't asked already, you should get seating near the bulkhead where there is more legroom. After everything is settled you can use your carryon luggage to keep your leg elevated.

If you haven't flown in a while--some pointers---do NOT lock your luggage. Security will break it open to check it. There are special locks avail from TSA, the security people, that have a code they can access if the luggage is locked. But, if the locks are you own, you'll have to get new ones! (I think you can even buy them at the airport.) Your crutches, carryon, purse, etc will go thru the xray conveyor; while you will be searched (gently touching you). A very sensitive wand will be passed over you too and will beep when it finds anything metal (was even set off by my bra hooks!!). You may or maynot be asked to remove your shoes.
I have had bilateral hip replacements and traveled last year for the first time since 911. I reserved a wheelchair at all the airports I was going to be in and it was a godsend!! Don't forget to tip the skycaps well! They have to walk miles in their shifts and pushing a few overweight (who?? me??) people around is not a bed of roses!! I bought a collapsible cane and it stored in my carryon while we were in flight. Everything worked out great!

Have a great trip! And God bless!!!

Congratulations! Move to the front of the line so you can board before anyone else does. Take your crutches with you and the flight attendant on the airplane will help you stow them (usually).

yes! because of terrorism, your crutches can't be:
-metallic
-a bomb
-a concealed weapon
-a hidden documentary on "How to Improve the Atmosphere"
-for children under the age of 12
-from the Middle East

definite. once seated the cabin crew will take them and stow for flight, yet will lead them to accessible in case you want them for the restroom. I vacation fairly on organisation and not in any respect have a topic.
