The term comes from the tv series Hawaii Five-0 which ran from 1968 - 1980 starring The late Jack Lord as Steve Mc Garrat and James Macarthur as his trusty sidekick. The term Five - 0 was in honour of Hawaii becoming the fiftieth state of the U.S.A

A reference to the old "Hawaii 5-0" TV show, which was about the Honolulu PD. It was a big hit in the 70's. "Book'em Dan-O!"
