There is a web site www.thepetitionsite.com. Click on euthanizing Georgia dogs (which is located on the bottem right part of screen, or you can go under animal welfare and look it up). There is a petition going around to stop the gassing of animals in Georgia. They need ten thoudand signatures. It only takes a minute of your time to help out the animals. Sometimes they only keep the animals for 5 days and then throw them in a gas chamber.

thanks for the headsup.. I signed..

Note: the petition is not asking to remove euthanization, but only that it be done by lethal injection..If you have seen how dogs are gassed, and how they die by injection, you would see an important difference..the gas chamber is so very traumatic!

This IS so said I am from a small county in kansas and they just built a humane society a year ago because they were havng to put to many animals down by just having a pound. To everyones surprise the Humane society has been very successful. Now they are having to put less animals down. What I am wondering is what is going on georgia and why hasnt anyone turned this in?? Putting an animal down when it doesnt have a rightful owner is sad but there are more humane ways to do it then gassing. Thanks for the info I hope all animal lovers on this site sign the petition. THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU

In the USA no kill shelters appear to be very fashionable.

I wonder if people realise just how stressful it is for a dog that was used to a large yard, or family interactions to be confined to a small kennel / cage / run.

Dogs often, within a short period of time start to exhibit "confinement stress / anxiety" comonly known as "kenell syndrome" which is extremely distressing for the animal. If not homed within a short time, some individual animals simply give up and even start to exhibit physical symtoms, not just behavioural.

What else can be done apart from painless euthanasia? There are just not enough homes for the amount of dogs.

We live in a world of over dog-population.

Perhaps sterilization should be made more available to people of limited income.

So, NO - as much as I sympathise with the dogs plight, we need to be more pro-active, not re-active. Rather collect funds for education and sterilisation:

And are you going to take in all of the dogs and pay for their food, shelter and vet bills?
The ugly truth is they adopt out all they can but you cannot expect the shelters to just keep hundreds if not thousands of animals.
The only solution is getting your pets fixed and convincing others to do the same.

Perhaps you should do a little research on the sponsor of the partition Jacqueline Bartelmo.

She seems to think that we should have a say in what people in other countries eat as well. (like meat)
