My brother and sister-in-law are expecting a baby in December. They have been living together for 3 years, but my brother's jack russell is very protective of him and bites his wife when they're too close together. The dog also refuses to obey the wife. He is very agressive and does whatever he pleases. This is obviously a huge problem with a baby on the way. Any advice on how they can change the dog's attitdue toward the wife? The dog has already been neutered.

This is a real problem that people face every day. I don't appreciate the abusive answers. Unless you have a real idea, please move along to the next question.

Why have they allowed this to go on? This has to be stopped immediately. Both your brother and his wife need to be able to give that dog commands and have them obeyed. This dog needs obedience, he needs to know quite clearly that every human is higher in the pack than he is.

He needs to work for everything he gets - put him in a sit stay before he gets his food, make him down stay for a treat, call him and as a reward for obeying the "come" command, give him a pet.

This breed has some horrible temperaments on some of them, thanks to the popularity of Eddie on Frasier. If this dog can't be controlled very soon, they need to get some professional help who can work with them.

I stay in an position of living, and that i have a canines even with the indisputable fact that that's properly tailored to residing in an position of living and the canines is walked 3 or extra cases in preserving with day. This canines, the Jack Russell Terrier is a hyper, lively canines so i do no longer imagine it could be a contented canines with you operating fairly some the day. i'd evaluate yet another type of canines extra adaptable to an position of living.

The Jack has not been trained well. The dog sees the wife as an invader and wants her to leave. If left uncorrceted the dog will have issues with a new baby.

To correct this behavior after 3 years of allowing it to continue will take patience and determination. Unless they are willing to commit to training this dog and stick to it, this will be another lost cause and another sad homeless pet.
They need to consult with a trainer as there is a baby on the way and 2 lives are at stake.

Every dog (pup) that comes into my house is given the alpha b treatment: I put them on their back, take their throat in my teeth (not hard, just so they know WHO has them) and I growl. Teaches them quick who is the leader of the pack. Yes, on occasion, I still put my 80# golden down and remind him.

The Russell owns his territory, until she shows him who is in authority.....

Might be a thing to teach the dog the word NO
