I honestly don't know. It's just kids fooling themselves in my opinion. For one to believe in the Devil, one must also believe in God. If you believe in either, you must believe in religion. From a religious stand point God is a being representing everything good and the Devil is a being representing everything evil. It's ridiculous to think that evil is good and good is evil which is essentially what these kids are doing.

To believe going to Hell is preferable to going to Heaven is also ridiculous, as Heaven again represents everything good such as love, peace and harmony. While Hell represents everything bad such as pain, death and destruction. For anyone to say they prefer the latter is mind boggling, as surely you would choose peace over pain.

That's why Satanists to me, represent teens trying to act cool by forcing themselves to believe that the Devil will reward them, if they pledge aligience to him before they die. And if religion is real, that simply isn't what will happen

Actually i do know some satanists, although not too personally. According to them, the worship of Satan in this world will earn them the right to stand at his side in hell when they die. Don't make assumptions that i don't know what i'm talking about thank you.

LMAO! "The same reasons i worship God?" screw God. I don't believe in either, i'm just asking why some worship Satan as he's a being of evil according to religion. The fact that some take it upon themselves to shun the primary diety in favour of a being of evil, makes believe in religion even less.

I just read that wikipedia link and to my surprise the ideals a satanist lives by are almost exactly the same ones i do. I guess i was wrong to speak of satanists as one single group. It would seem the so called satanists i know behave very differently to "true satanists" and i apologise for applying stereotypes to a whole belief. I'll admit when i'm wrong and in this case i am.

I think they enjoy the shock factor. They hope people will be afraid of them. They hope to scare people. I know they are always shocked with I sit next to them all smiling and wanting to say hello.

They want to justify being different. I'm different. But I don't need to do dangerous things to justify it. Ah well.

The vast vast majority of Satanists do not believe Satan actually exists. They embrace the ideals commonly associated with Satan, not so much the mythical character himself.

There is a small group of Satanists who do believe he actually exists. But their perspective is that Satan is a lower god who is in charge of humanity both in this life and the next. They do not see him as the cartoonish evil character of Christianity though. They see him as an intercessor between humanity and the unapproachable head god (sort of like Jesus in Christianity).

There is an even smaller group who worship Satan who actually believe he exists, and who see him the same way Christians do. I suspect that's the group you're really addressing.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Satanism is a sect of christianity. Most of those labelled "satanists" are people who have the *gall* - the *temerity*! - not to obey human beings who claim they "speak for god".

Remember the old "I'm with stupid -> " t-shirts? All christian sects stand next to each other wearing shirts that say, "I'm with the satanist ->".

Why do stupid people think Satanism involves the worship of the devil?

Answer that one first.

"It follows that Satanism shuns the idea of belief in all other deities as well, including, to the surprise of many, Satan."

They have to believe several lies, such as:
Morality is wrong, and keeps us bound
"Hell ain't a bad place to be" (seems someone once wrote a song like this)
We are our own gods
There are no consequences for sin.

Satanists are in for a rude awakening one day.
