The best way is to find someone close to him and ask,you don't lose anything or being embarrassed,because if he is not single,you shouldn't care if he finds out about your question,if not he would be grateful to you for searching!!

get talking to him and just say some thing like did you have a good weekend? did you do anything? If he says yea we went bla bla place say was that with your wife and he'll say no I'm not married Ive got a girlfriend or something like that
