Hello , I am a strong believer of Jesus Christ and the King James Bible. However, I have heard of Churches in the passed that they didn't like a certain book or Cd or movie. They either burned the books and or stomped on the cd's and movies and Etc. What do you think of churches doing this? Do you think they are over doing it and they already supported the people that they baught them from?

Those people that did that are fanatics, and are trying to push their fanaticism onto others...

I am quite familiar with this--in fact I was forced to participate when I was a teenager. My parents pretty much cleaned out my room and destroyed all my books, videos and cds (even the ones they bought me) because some travelling evangelist told them to. To me, this is like the Dark Ages all over again. Just because Christians don't like something doesn't give them the right to force others to their point of view. Everyone has the choice to accept God or reject him, and the most a Christian should do is provide a good example and pray. Burning books does not provide a good example; it makes Christians look uneducated and anti-intellectual. Well, more so than most already seem to be.

Well, it would probably be what people have already bought or been given, so no new ones would be bought.

You've brought back some bad memories. I was made to feel guilty in the Assemblies of God church for enjoying hip-hop music, and we had burnings of magazines and CD busting. I didn't go along with it. A friend of mine did, and she got so depressed--she just couldn't force herself into that mold they wanted for her.

I've said it before and I will again--so many Christians credit Satan with way more creativity than God. They have such a narrow range of acceptably "Godly" media, etc., and credit Satan with most music, magazines, books, religions, sexual positions, etc.

Yeah...but don't compare them to Nazi Germany or they'll burn you at the stake.

John Lennon made an honest observation that more kids attended Beatles concerts in 1964 than attended church and they completely freaked out and had massive Beatle burnings everywhere. Lennon was really trying to say how ridiculous it was and what a shame that the Beatles (a rock band) were more popular with kids than God. He was trying to warn against the power of the pop culture...and he was right.

It is a sickness of a false religion which seems to only invoke hatred world wide.

One of the churches here in my town did that to the Harry potter Books. It was actually kind o funny because they had to buy the books before they could burn them. And in buying them, they supported what they were trying to oppose. I beleive that the churches are over doing it a little bit. I think that the churches are taking the wrong approach to this. They should take a more positive approach to it.

Its wrong, and goes against everything Jesus taught. he preached aboutlove andacceptance, not hatred and restrictions. And to the person who said they didn't go out and buy the stuff specifically, most of them did. I know people who say Authors should be burnt at the stake for writing books they don't personally like. Yet when asked, they will admit they haven't even read the book, their preacher told them it was bad. Censorship is alive and well, and living in North American churches

They are entitled to express their views and opinions so long as they don't go from house to house and library to library and confiscate these items.

Once upon a time I liked Cat Stevens (Wild World, Sitting, Moonshadow) and after he turned to Islam and APPROVED of killing that author who wrote a cricitcal book on Islam, I stopped listen to his music out of outrage. Most American and English radio stopped playing his songs, thus stopped financing him.

No one should sanction killing of another person for what they say or write. Protesting them, certainly. But not say it's cool to have them killed and they should be killed!

I would throw my copies of his albums into a fire, but I wouldn't MAKE you do that with your copies.

If you want to get rid/burn your own stuff because you think it’s causing you to sin, fine.
But going out and buying stuff to burn makes absolutely no sense. You are only putting more money into the pockets of he author/singer/actor that you are condemning. And giving them lots of great free publicity as well.
