That's not true at all. When I was in school the white/black and hispanic ratio was about even. As for me and several people in my family and also friends of mine volunter for the Red cross, SPCA, etc.

I don't mean to be rude but ur comment is a bit ignorant and a little racist.

Maybe your area is mostly white and the few blacks and hispanics are trying to be good and constant parents to their kids by being there and their time off work spending time with them.

Okay, so Im a black female, 24 years old! First I'd like to point out that there are a few very racist comments on here, even though some of them are not even intentional. To assume that minoritys dont volunteer because they are all in a state of poverty is very prejudiced. However I cant get angry at that because I know thats probably what you truly think and it wasnt a malicious comment. I wont even comment on the ignorant a$$ comments that some ppl say just to insight fury!

I would also like to say that I dont think this question is maliciously racist either, ignorant yes, but racist no. I believe that this person really thinks that minority's dont volunteer and truly wanted someone to explain this to him/her.

My answer is this... take a look on the internet and you will find thousands of organizations, charities, community centers, grants, funds etc. that are solely dedicated to and run by other african americans and hispanics. I think there is a bit of truth that a.a.'s dont entirely embrace the whole "giving back to our country" ideal. However, that doesnt really reflect the desire to give back to "our community". If anything, it seems as though most minorities who do make it beyond "middle class" make a point of giving back, which isnt a common place for white people and givingback to their community. Since it seems as though you dont really have that much experience in interacting with black people so Ill try to put this in terms you can relate to. As far as black entertainers and athletes, dont we always see how they have donated some money to charitable organization or started some kind of community center or fund in their name.

I for one started a community club at 2 charter schools that were specifically dedicated to getting the kids more involved in their community and staying off the streets. I understand if you may not know that many minorities in your own community or neighborhood that volunteer, but you should really take a more broad look nationwide. Not all of us are in jail. And contrary to popular belief, there are more white people in jail than black people, its just a higher PERCENTAGE of black ppl than white people to the national population.

"i dont know".... no, you really dont!!!

first your question makes no sense in what you are wanting. it sounds actually like a rude commit. now if you mean why do in the beginning you would be sadly mistaken. they volunteer in my opinion more than whites. (I'm white if your wondering) at least white adults between the age of 20-30 age. here is a actually fact, elderly or retired people of all races volunteer more than those in their 20-40 age group.

Because they are not American. American: Whites who came to the new continent to exterminate all the other races and build a new white society. I wish I could volunteer for a country that I knew was looking out for my children's future.

for example:

you need to add a "s" in african american and hispanic
i would say that you should capitalize it also because it is a proper noun but you might be a lazy typer like i am

First, where did you get that information from? Second, some people do not have time to volunteer because they are busy working one or two jobs, taking care of their families or otherwise.

Where do you live, Montana?

Yet another prejudice generalization on yahoo answers!

I'm black... and I've volunteered for years. I've volunteered with young kids in preschool. And I've volunteered at adult homes.

And if you count the time I was first starting in radio... I was pretty much working for free. They call that an internship nowadays. BUT, if you're not getting paid... its voluntary.

So... lets try to keep your racist generalizations to yourself... OK!

I don't think that's true, but if you have found a statistic saying it is, poverty leading to lack of money for transportation to do the volunteering might be a factor.
