I have heard of people doing this. I don't know about computers and electronics so much. But I know companies will pay you to complete surveys on new products and in some cases you get to test the product, which you may or may not get to keep.

I know someone that has tested everything from shampoo to a printer. The best thing is to look around online. I know Yahoo! groups has some groups made just for survey companies. If you can find some of those, you can then ask the members where you could sign up to do product testing.

Good luck!

Not sure if it's what you are looking for... but I am a member of some market research survey panels. They pay me taking their surveys online and sometimes they send me products to test at home... but most of the products I have tested are food items, personal and household items etc. I did tested a printer one time though... Here is a list of those product testing panels I belong to http://mysurvey123.com/get-paid-to-test-products-at-home/ - hope it helps. Oh and those are all free to join and you never need to pay anything.

These offers come from marketing groups. What they do is run you through a series of offers from different companies(ie, credit card offers, DVD offers, on-line schooling etc...) in order to get the free stuff you must sign up for two or more offers. It's not worth it. Stay away from these "scams"

Whoa, something for nothing, that sounds too good to be true! Before you look at these sites, go to
www.scambuster.com
Go to List of Scams (back issues)
Go to #192, "can you really get Free designer Handbag and other valuable prizes?"
It's worth the read
