I'ts a long story, but friends suggested that I drink a glass of wine to help me relax at night. The problem is, I've never drank before so I need something sweet that will relax my body and that I can buy at a grocery store like Harris Teeter or Food Lion. What would be a good wine to try? Is there a difference btwn champagne and wine?

Thanks!

You shouldnt drink. Try calling AA, and get help. This is the start of a bad addiction.

Try Verdi, it's clear and just a little bubbly, but not a "Champagne" as far as I know. If you don't have a pallet for wine, then the Arbor Mist wines are like drinking fruit juice.
Depending upon where you live, you can buy some more expensive wine that I fell in love with, click the link below, and check out Category 5, or the Pineapple, or whatever else looks good.
Good drinking.

I would just go to a liquor store, and ask the associate to recommend a nice, fairly cheap wine. I would definitely take wine over champagne any day, especially for relaxation. Rad or White is a personal preference. Most reds aren't as sweet as whites, but I think reds have a richer taste. Someone suggested Chianti, I think that's a great first try for your situation.

A nice light wine w/ a tiny bit of sweetness in it is Rose' (not usually too expensive; serve chilled). Otherwise a wine that's too sweet will almost guarantee you a headache.

Champagne IS wine, it just happens to be sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France. If you like stuff like that but don't want to go broke and reg. champagne is a little too dry for you, try Asti Spumante. It's a lighter, cheaper, sweeter version & usually domestic. Don't be impressed by labels; it's what tastes good to you that counts.

All things in moderation.

All the suggestions above are good (well most ;)

If you get a chance to go to a wine tasting event, that would be a great way to find out which you like without having to buy each bottle. Or have all your friends get together and each bring a different bottle of wine. That way, you can have a nice party and also find out what you like best.

Ahhh the fun of it is in the discovery.... pick any bottle the first time out and try it.... you should get four glasses from a 750 ml bottle of wine so it will last you four nights at one glass a night.. then try a different bottle... you will go thru about two bottles a week and after a few months you'll start to get an idea which wines appeal to you...

Champagne is good but will loose some fizz if you try and keep it for a day or two. Sangria is sweet, but just try a few different ones and see what you like best. Another option is they make little bottles that come like coolers in a 4 pack and maybe you can put a couple different ones in it so you can try different ones. If the store will let you.

I would suggest wine rather than champagne. Never get rhine wine as it is very dry, not sweet at all. Most white wines are on the sweet side, like Zinfandel or Chablis blush. Good Luck

Nice sweet wine that the stores you mentioned might carry is Sutter Home's Moscato. Extravagantly perfumed, with beautiful scents of white peaches, rose, and lichee. Well-balanced with good acidity and a lingering finish of sweet and creamy peach and honeydew melon flavors. Light-bodied to enjoy as an aperitif or pair with fruit, light cheeses, sorbets (strawberry, peach, pear, or apple), and other light desserts.Sutter Home has produced this classic, fragrant, light-bodied dessert wine from the Muscat grape for over 50 years. Moscato is the Italian name for Muscat. It is vinified from grapes grown near Madera and Fresno in the Central Valley of California. Difference between champagne and wine is Champagne has carbonation and wine is considered "still" having no carbonation.

Champagne is a rather "grown up" way to start to relax. I would try a red wine such as Funky Llama (about $7.99 a bottle). It has a strange name I know, but for the price, it's something nice to try. A Merlow is nice in the evening and if you're just looking for a glass to relax you, I would recommend Funky Llama.

Wine is good for you .
If you never had wine before , then try white .
A Chardonnay , or Chablis .
You will sleep like a baby .
And only 1 glass will do .
Champagne sparkles , and you can not keep it till the next day .
It will lose it's sparkle .
