I'ts a long story, but friends suggested that I drink a glass of wine to help me relax at night. The problem is, I've never drank before so I need something sweet that will relax my body and that I can buy at a grocery store like Harris Teeter or Food Lion. What would be a good wine to try? Is there a difference btwn champagne and wine?

Thanks!

Champagne has a higher alcohol content and has carbonation which tends to give you a headache or more drunk faster. Stick with wine. If you want something sweet, try Lambrusco from Ruinite. Chill before drinking. Good luck!

If you are looking for something that tastes like soda pop, Boones Farm makes very sweet wine.

For a sipping wine I love white merlot.
I bought a 4 pack of mini bottles of white merlot when I was at the beach this year, they were perfect.

Just pick up a mid priced bottle of the house brand.
The active ingredient for relaxation is the alcohol. The alcohol% is pretty much the same in all wines (and champagne).

actually, I prefer whiskey myself. And I agree, it is nice to wind down with a sip of wine/ whiskey.

A good bottle of Gewurztraminer or Riesling is great. Champagne is bubbly (sparkling) and completely different than wine. It is not a good starter for a non-drinker.

Well it sure ain't mad dog 20/20! All kidding aside, a "sweet" wine will not relax you! If anything it will hype you up.. So if i were you I'd go with a "John Munday!" It's a dry red merlot, very deep, and relaxing.

A full bodied pinot noir is great cause red wine is good for your health. Start with a Estancia PN 2002.

i'd try a pinot grogio and just add a little lemo if it's abit to dry, sweet wine is foul, refine your pallette once you get into drinking the right kind of wines your really start to enjoy them, aswell as with food such as cheese and olives, meats and fishes, remember white wine for chicken and fish dishes and red wine for red meats and cheeses, never eat with chocolate, i just don't get the whole eating chocolate thing with any kind of alcohol.

You might like a Riesling. Vitners like Columbia-Crest and Chateau St. Michelle are widely available.
