ok, set up your browser so you can open several tabs at once. Bring up expedia, orbitz and travelocity. Plug in your dates and locations and compare prices at all three. Once you've found the lowest before purchasing go to that airline's website to see if they're a little lower (they often are).

I do not recommend using cheaptickets as they often have connections that are very difficult (I actually had to exit the airport and go to another ticket counter at a connection). Priceline is ok if you don't mind long layovers or lots of connections, but again you loose some control over your trip when you agree to their terms.

The best I've found is kayak.com It not only gives you the cheapest fares, it gives you lots of options to compare the carriers - it's fast, too!
