I heard that it is haram (or a sin) to eat non-halal meat during Ramadan? Why? And also from what I've heard form my Islamic teacher in college, he says that eating non-halal meat in general is haram. Is this true?

I know what you mean Haroon but I want more details. Your just stating the obvious. I mean I know muslims can't eat pork because we say they are dirty for instance.
Well anyway I talked to my teacher yesterday, and what he says that,"Muslims can't any meat that is manufactured by Christians. That includes fastfood. You have to get the meat from a halal shop."
Basically I am so confused.. I even asked him about the meats we buy from Albertsons, and he even says thats haram. I don't like this idea whatsover. And I am betting that atleast half or more muslims in the U.S. have eaten fastfood atleast once in their lives.

what do you think about this info below?
I researched this recently from answers.com/halal
Second type of "Bismillah" Halal
Adherents to this type of "Bismillah Halal" generally believe that any food, whether or not it is a forbidden substance, becomes halal once "Bismillah al Raĥman Al Raĥim" (In the name of God the Beneficent the Merciful) is recited over the food. Generally, this phrase is recited immediately prior to consumption.
It is believed by many[citation needed] that this method of making food halal does not adhere to Islamic guidelines, largely because it contradicts the Quranic verses on forbidden substances.
