My parents live in the same city as us, we plan to tell them in person when I am around 3 months pregnant.

We would like to tell them at a family get together or dinner.

What are good ways to tell them they will be grandparents for the first time?

Thanks!

Congratulations!

Since this is a joyous occasion, it might be nice to interject a little fun.

They have balloons for new grandparents. Maybe decorate with a few of those and some other new grandparent related things at your get-together.

If your mom doesn't already know you are and just hasn't said anything to you then try a nice meal together. Or if you were the child that kept your parent guessing all your child hood you could by them a card that says grandma and grandpa in it. My youngest older brother called my mom and called her to talk to her and called her grandma and seen what her reaction was. She loved it. You just have to find a way that will mean alto to them. Since this is their first grandchild i am sure they are going to love him or her allot and your child will be spoiled beyond your wildest dreams.

Good Luck and Congrats.

give them a pair of booties or a bottle or something and tell them they should keep them handy at their house. then just wait for it. it will take a second, but when they figure out why they might need something like that, then the smiles will burst out.
and thats great that the grandparents live close by, my son has all his grandparents near and it has been great.

I just told my mother right off the bat, but now I wish I had gotten her a "World's Best Grandma" card with an ultrasound photo sandwiched in it, or something cute and memorable of that nature.
It's exciting news, and you only get to tell them once, so make it grand.

My husband and I worked it into conversation. We told my mom after watching a movie... it happened to be Oscar night and she mentioned that she'd been invited to a party. I told her it was better that I didn't go to any because I'd want to have a drink, and that's not good for growing babies.

My husband and I asked his parents, "How does Grandma _name_ and Grandpa _name_ sound?" When they replied, "It has a nice ring," or something similar, we told them we were glad they liked it because they'd be hearing it more often soon.

Working it into casual conversation allows for some great double-takes!

tell them at dinner when it is just you and your husband there.. you will see their happy feelings and have a memory they will never forget.. it will also give then some to brag about to the rest of the family. grandparents love to do that. they can talk about it to others at all different times. they will always remember the day you told then about (little ?) lol

We took our parents out to eat. We purchased cups saying something about being a grandparent and talked to the waitresses about 15 minutes before the parents arrived. The waitress brought their drinks out in the "special" cups! It was great! All the waitresses fought over who got to wait on us. I loved doing this. It can't be topped.

You should tell them at Thanksgiving Dinner and say "we've got a bun in the oven" as dinner is being prepared. Or actually put some buns in the oven and as you're getting them out or something corny like that say it.

WEIRD MOOD sry!
