This reminds me of a real story about an old uncle of mine. When he was a kid, he went to his father's orchard to pick some apples. The orchard was about half an hour walk out of the village where they lived. When he came back a few hours later, he told everybody about his encounter with a huge hare. According to his story, when he was on his way to the orchard the hare was in a bush beside the road and saw my uncle, but he didn't see the hare. When my uncle was on his way back, the hare was no longer there. This happened in the 60s. The guy is still alive and really believes his own improbable stories. No signs of sense of humour, though.
