It depends on what you are trying to drive with the motor; In star the motor will not develop the torque to drive the full load as it will be working at approx ^3 of it's power and thus would be very inefficient and would have a very low power factor. So if there is still enough power to do what you want with this motor running in star, you would be far better off using a smaller motor, in delta and utilising it's best efficiency which is at or near to full load.

probably not, since delta is the normal method for hooking up large motors.. plus you have to deal with the cost of changing over your transformers that supply the power to the motor..

Start it in Star, then run it in Delta. That is the most economical.
