Hi!

I am hoping to get a spiral perm soon, and I heard that it really damages your hair, so want my hair to be in the best condition it can be.

I have highlights put through the parting about 4 times a year (a few shades of blonde, just lighter than my natural colour), I don't use heat like straightners or hairdryer, so its in fairly good condition, a little dry maybe....

I'd like something that will really improve the condition of my hair, a deep treatment or something that I can use for a while... I don't care about price AS LONG AS IT WORKS!!

Thanks guys!

Chi Infra Treatment is the best.
You could try Extra Virgin Olive Oil too.

What you need is a protein conditioning pack. You can get them at places like Sally's Beauty Supplies. They are a little over $1 a pack but work great. Why you need the protein is because when ever you do any kind of chemical process on your hair ex.. highlights, color, perms ....... your hair losses it's natural protein and becomes damaged. The protein packs will repair most of the damage. I would also recommend that you use them after your perm. Wait a few days first though. For the best results wash your hair with hot water, towel dry your hair then apply the protein pack and comb through your hair. Leave on your hair for five minutes then rinse in cool or lukewarm water. You can even heat up a moist towel in the microwave and wrap it around your hair while the protein pack in on. The heat will open up the cuticle of your hair so that the protein can get into your hair shaft rather than just coat it. It's a good idea to use these packs about once a month. It keeps your hair looking nice and a lot healthier.

Saying as you mentioned that you don't use any heat on your hair it's probably alot different than mine to begin with b/c mine is quite thick & kinky so I have to blow dry & straighten after every wash which means mine can get really, really dry.

However, I tried a conditioner called 'Aussie Three Minute Miracle, reconstructor' which worked wonders it's a little expensive for conditioner about £5 if your in the UK! But my hair is really soft, shiny & manageable after use, which is pretty hard to achieve I can tell you! My hairdresser also recommends taking those skin, hair & nails vitamins before extensive perm or colour treatments or if you want to grow your hair quite quickly apparently they work wonders for conditioning.

Good Luck with the perm, I love spirals!!!

Get some K-Pak by Joico (Your local beauty supply store or salon should have it) and some plastic shower caps. Once or twice a week, wash your hair as normal, wring out as much water as you can and apply the K-Pak. Clip your hair up with an alligator clip or something, then put the shower cap on. Leave it on for five minutes or so while you shave or whatever, then rinse it out. Your hair will be like silk!! I used to highlight my hair and doing this kept if soft and shiny and free of split ends. And K-Pak smells great! Good luck! s.

I would use Paul Mitchell or Aveda conditioners. Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum helps protect har (after you get the perm) and will control frizz. Nexxus is good too.

I know you don't want to hear it, but I would not do the perm (any perm). They completely damage hair (especially color-treated hair) and at that point, conditioners don't help much.
