A medical assistant does not have the authorization to prescribe medication, therefore they do not have the authorization to order a refill either.

All precriptions must be authorized by a doctor or a nurse practitioner.

Most pharmacies will let buy 2-4 pills to hold you over until the doctor is able to approve a refill.

Physican assistant can write particular non narcoctic meds and order refills.

Don't know what you mean by medical asst.
If not authorized by doctor to do so then no.
Different medications having different regulation.

I surely can call my doctors office or ask pharmacy to call and get refills on most prescriptions but not narcotic unless PA (with doctor auth)or Doctor authorizes.
They just call or fax the drug store.

It does vary from physician to physician....but if the person is not a patient with a chart in the office....I would say ..no. I would advise him to try to contact the physician or the one on call.

There is too much danger, not only from not knowing the patient , but there are malpractice issues to consider.

Some types of medications can ONLY be prescribed by the Physician.
