fastweb.com Free to use if you don't mind the ads. I paid for college this way and the following...
Apply for government financial aid. If you are on your own it is pretty easy to get money.
Finally, go to the financial aid office at the school (if possible) there will probably be a lot of signs etc about scholarships.
Good luck.
Oh, let me add this, if you can talk to anyone in the financial aid office, they are a wealth of knowledge.
I was 25 when I went back. I had my tuition, fees, & books paid plus made about $2000 a year with the extra money. But, if you do end up with extra, make sure you don't have to repay it before you spend it. The scholarships I got just cut a check for the amount & the school refunded to me what I did not use. This was AFTER my gov't financial aid paid for a lot!!!!
It may seem like a lot of work but it is worth it.

If you sign up on www.fastweb.com, you can input all your interests, organizations you participated in, volunteer work, jobs you had, sports you played, school activities, etc... and you will get a list of scholarships you qualify for. Some just require income, some require an essay. Also, if you go to any websearch engine and type in college scholarships or college grants....you will get a whole list of websites. Be careful not to accept anything you did not sign up for. You can also go to the financial aid website www.finaid.gov and apply. If you go to any search engine and type "financial aid"+"college", you will get several results as well. Hundreds of scholarships and grants go unclaimed every year. Good luck on your search and completing your education.

For federal assistance, you'll need to fill out the FAFSA (Federal Application for Financial Student Aid - or something like that), which can be done after Jan.1st of each year. The sooner you submit it, the more money that's available to you.
Also try www.fastweb.com
Talk to the financial aid department at your school, as well as the department for your program.

Fill out your Fasa, and join a site like fastwed <- they'll match you to scholorships or loans and grants basied on what your going to major in. and they are much less likely to be scams than the ones you'd find on a random web search.
Going to college on your own is hard, but in the end its very rewarding to know that its you doing it for yourself.
And some places will pay you to go to college while you work for them, or will help you pay the bills for it.

This may sound like a smart-*** comment, but I am serious here. Legally change your name to Rodriguez or something similar and write down on the applications that you are a minority. You'll get all the money you need and more. Also, if you're a single mother, you will get everything for free. My friend, a single mother, is going to college full-time for free because of these realities and she said to me, "You did it the right way and had to pay, and I messed up and don't have to pay." This is the f*cked up reality of the society we live in.

First thing you should know is if the school you are trying to apply provide financial aid, if so then you can apply for it once you get in. If you haven't decided w/c school to go to, i suggest you apply to government aided schools like CUNY, if you're from New York. For sure they have all sorts of grants and financial aids.. All you have to do is check their website and it'll guide you through.. Goodluck..

If you have good credit, you can try any number of private loans. I had a friend who had a good experience with Think Financial - he had shaky credit, but because he had a creditworthy co-signer, he was able to get a loan.
