We've got Julius Caesar to thank for the name. He called the big island Britannia Magna (Great Britain) and the smaller one Britannia Parva (that's the one we now call Ireland). At the time, the English all lived up a tree somewhere in Germany. They came over about 400 years later.

It might be a bigger island than Ireland, but it's never been much to write home about. It's a shame Caesar didn't call the place Little Europe.

my opinion, Britain is Great. it doesn't have to be a physical word. i just like the country. i lived there for 2 years in the military. met great people, great food, cool commercials, cool TV shows, the best Zoo, learned cool history you don't learn in books, saw wonderful traditions not taught about in the USA and found out my own family came from there from many generations ago, so it will always be Great Britain to me.

Well, a good start would be instead of all this continual self-criticism that is carried to a destructive extreme. Lets also celebrate our achievements and all the good things we have done.

Stop dumming everything down. Stop the media bias against the sciences. Stopping a few other media biases would also help.

Well we could stop taking cheap imports for a start and use our natural resources to our advantage. We should be concentrating on what we export well, so that other countries are gagging for what we can offer. Thats what makes a country appealing to others.

Alternatively, we could get our queen to start invading countries again, bring back slavery, ensure the whole world speaks our language etc etc ;) lol

The first idea might go down a bit better though! :)

I agree with puppersap but we can't turn the clock back so the next best thing would be to elect Tony Benn (Enoch's protogee) as Prime Minister or at least Home Secretary & Defence Minister to sort all that stuff OUT!! If you get my drift...ahem.

Buy local produce by all means yes, buying British would be good!

Oh and bring back the National Service please!!!
