Recently in a news article a mother of a fallen soldier stated .... "Nothing is worth losing a son but everything - everything - is worth a man willing to take that risk and to die for what he believes in." (CTV.ca) This statement is very powerful and very emotional. What do you think?

"The only way evil can triumph over good is for good men to do nothing". This woman has her head on straight. Her son died for what he believed and whether he was on the right side or not, he died for his beliefs and you have to respect that.

My husband is a Marine. We have 4 children together. And dreams.Sometimes when I look at him,I try to imagine what I would do if he didn't come back from this upcoming deployment.(Febraury). I still can't come up with anything definete.I try.I ask him what his wishes would be.But I'd just feel so alone.I try to think that he would have died as a hero. But a hero is someone who is willing to take the risk.He doesn't want to go over there. He doesn't want to leave us behind. He does it for us though. If he doesn't, he will be refusing orders and get sent to the brig and that won't help us at all.Though sometimes I secretly wish he would do just that.I want him alive. But there is some sort of purpose over there.Even if it is not clear to us.Bush might be an ***.But it's in Gods hands. And he knows what he's doing.I just trust him. With all my heart.ANd look forward to the future.

As an Army wife, that's a military mother I can truly respect. At least she knows and understands what her son was willing to do. I have nothing but praise and admiration for her. She's definitely everything that Cindy Sheehan is not. My hubby has deployed 3 times so far. It's so stressful. So many thoughts go through your mind. I can't imagine ever being without him. However, I know why he joined and I know he loves what he does. I fully support him. God forbid something happened to him, at least I'd have the honor of being married to a brave man that believed in his country and what he does.

My heart and prayers go out to this mother. God bless!!

Thats also what the mothers of suicide bombers say- perhaps the bin Laden could use it to recruit! a powerful and emotive statement is almost always illogical.Just because people die for a belief it does not make it right, it just means someone else was very persuasive and convinced someone to die for some belief-just like the Solar Phoenix cult.
If the statement under discussion is considered logical it follows that suicide bombers are even more glorious as they don't just take a risk -they go to certain death.

squaddies have families that look after them and whilst one takes a soldier from his domicile purely to keep peace in yet another, confident, that is incredibly that huge of a deal. Out of those 5,a hundred thirty squaddies killed, what proportion have been under the age of 21 ? they did not even ruin the ingesting age yet, they have been given a weapon to tension peace right into a rustic of which they don't even belong. i'm valuable that in case you had a son or daughter over there, you will not be posting this question.

I think that this mother understood her sons duty to his country, or perhaps to his fellow soldiers, but she personally didn't think it was worth the risk.

What mother would? What mother would say,

"Sure take my son! In fact, I have a daughter in the house, you can have her too!"

No mother would, but this one had the strength to respect her son's actions.

God bless her is all I can say to that. I don't know if I'd be able to let go of the anger of losing a relative, let alone a child in combat.

If knowledge is power, then action is freedom; and God bless the soldiers that are willing to take action for our freedom.

I think that IS a very powerful statement. And it takes a very strong woman to convey a message that true when she's facing such a loss.

Sorry but other countries don't measure there greatness by the number of dead soldiers that return home. Dead soldiers are the result of dumb voters. When diplomacy fails soldiers die. More often than not they die only to enrich the lavish lifestyles of those that sent them there.
