The world is in a state of flux. Global warming, bizarre weather patterns, Red Sox win a World Series. Pluto gets voted off the island. Why shouldn't religion get a makeover. I think "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods" should be tossed aside like a banana with brown spots. What's wrong with desiring something nice that your neighbor owns? A Lexus, perhaps. If you steal it then you've violated that other Commandment. If you kill the neighbor, that's covered, too. Coveting is just desiring. Almost everyone does that every day. No harm, no foul. That Commandment would be an afterthought on a 10 Suggestions list. 9 Commandments is a little unwieldy, though. OK, tack on a "Though shalt never laugh at a Pauly Shore movie" and you're back up to snuff.

There is a difference between coveting and appreciating, to my way of thinking. Coveting is wishing something was yours, but in an actual fashion, as if you wished that you had the Lexus instead of your neighbor. Appreciating a good car and wanting to get your own is different from wanting your neighbor to not have one so you could.

I think the Catholic Church does a decent job of updating its message and relevance, but should not change any of its core principles.

Oh, and the Pauly Shore is covered under the line "Do you reject Satan and all of his works?" Everybody answers yes, and I know I am thinking of Bio-Dome when I respond!

The reason is so that you don't circum to temptation of things that you see and desire. The commandment is there for you to keep God more important then the things we here and see.

The meaning of Coveting is deeper then dust a desire to have it. If one is not careful, you will do some unspeakable things to get what you want. Infact, depending on how deeply you desire what your neighbor has, you might kill anyone and destroy even your own family members to get it.

Coveting, has put a lot of doctors, lawyers, accountants, stock brokers investers, teachers, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters in jail or in thier graves.

I strongly believe in this commandment.

Those are God's commandments, not man's. Just because every one may be doing something, it doesn't make it right, and especially if God has said it isn't. Coveting something may seem like a small matter, but when you start to desire something that someone else has it means you want HIS item, so that may lead to that other commandment: Thou shall not steal! God knew what he was doing when he gave the ten commandments.

Covetting is desire, desire breeds envy, envy breeds contempt. That is why more than one Commandment warns against covetting.

Times change, but God does not, and neither does God's standards change. That is why, since the time of Moses, there has been - and always will be - Ten Commandments.

They already deleted one of the commandments:\

Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

What they then did was split commandment 10 into 2, such that there remains ten. Go check it out for yourself.

Anyway, the bible states that the antichrist will have power to change times and laws. Which times and laws would you think are important to God: Yes, His Laws and His times.

The catholics changed the time of the sabath from saturday to sunday, and they have changed Gods ten commandments - his law.

So who is the antichrist - yip, you guesed it - the pope

No. "Thou shalt not covet" is normally the predecesor of other sins. You covet, and then you do and sin and break another commandment. By not coveting, you can save yourself from sinning. And coveting isn't, "Man, Joe has a great new car" it's "Man, I want Joe's new car" and then thinking of ways to get Joe's car instead of how to get a car of your own.

I can see the catholic church doing just that, after all they teach that you need to confess to a priest, and the pope is the Holy Father of the Church. In both cases this is wrong! they also teach that mary remained a virgin, which is also wrong. But delete commandments?
because you don/'t like them is also wrong.

You CANNOT eliminate a Commandement. Those are God's rules not the Catholic church.
