We started with two in a small apartment, then took a friends cat...then had kittens. We only have one left and my husband wants to keep it. We have a slightly larger place now. We have two litter boxes in the laundry room. My husband cleans them once a week but even one day after it starts to smell terrible in my house! Im 10 wks pregnant so I cant change it, it can be a pain to get him too sometimes. I love my cats but its hard to handle the smell now, any suggestions?

Wow, once a week isn't enough with all those cats. I would ask him to clean it more often. Tidy cat also sells a litter called small spaces, it's very powerful in killing odors, I would try that too. Boy a baby and four cats, I envy that you guys have that much patients! Congrats on the baby!

I also have four cats and have found the only way to keep up with it is scooping twice daily. The brand of litter helps alot as well, Fresh Step isn't bad and clumps pretty well. I have not liked the Tidy Cat in the past because it doesn't clump real well and falls apart which means all the more "stink" I can't easily remove.

The automatic litter box would be a good idea as well but I am told that with multiple cats the clumping litter (which is required) can get very wet and then clogs the gears. So you would probably have to invest in a couple of them.

I have switched from regular litter boxes to deep (about 12 inches) storage containers. This has really helped in keeping the litter IN the boxes and not tracked all over the house.

I think it's great you are both willing to give these guys a home and are trying to learn the best way to care for them. Good luck to good hearts!

I have 5 cats and I clean the litter box 2 times a day, nobody even knows I have 5 cats and I live in an apartment. I use Exquisite Cat Litter for multiple cats, it works really well. Good luck.

I cannot believe this question. It cannot be for real. Clean the litter box daily. I have two cats and clean the litter box three times a day and change the litter completely once a week. How often do you change their water and give them fresh food? Put yourself in their place and go to the bathroom and NOT flush for one week and see how you like it. I am NOT being rude, I just want you to SEE that these kitties need caring after. Please look after these babies better as they cannot care for themselves. They will start going outside the litterbox if something is not done, and then what. It is going to lead to physical abuse of these kitties because they do. They cannot help themselves. I cannot stress that enough.

He really needs to change/clean it more often than that, especially when you are pregnant. And, since you are pregnant you are also more sensitive to smells. With four cats the box should be cleaned every day or every other day. Or, it WILL smell. Twice a week might work with one cat but four cats are a whole other story...

Here's a few suggestions:
1.Use scoopable litter and scoop it every day or twice a day.
You will have to bribe your husband with something to make him do it more often. Maybe a steak dinner?
2. Next, if you can afford it, purchase a high quality air purifier and make it filter the laundry room air.
3. Last, turn on the vent fan when the cats drop the bomb, just like we do when we do doo-doo.

Clean your litter boxes at least twice a day. I have 3 cats myself and two litter boxes. I must clean them twice a day, if not then I have the same problem as you.

For 4 cats, cleansing desires to be on a regular basis inspite of greater suitable than one field. I even have 2 cats and another day isn't adequate with a sizeable muddle field. There extremely could be one muddle field according to cat inclusive of one on each point of the dwelling house. A coated litterbox does wonders and forestalls cats from throwing muddle outdoors of it whilst overlaying up their messes and has a charcoal air clear out which will shop the scent down. the computerized packing containers gets crammed up extremely immediately and don't do something with regard to the muddle tracked everywhere. some cats are additionally too afraid to apply them. i in my opinion like the single I even have, it extremely is a huge "booda" field with an inner ramp and could carry an entire 28lb field of the "particular Kitty" muddle that looks to artwork maximum suitable for my cats and keeps the scent down (it is likewise the main inexpensive that's a great bonus). The ramp stops ninety 9% of the muddle from being tracked outdoors of the field. you will get mats that do an identical undertaking in case you utilize a field with no ramp. i've got additionally chanced on that the better the quantity of muddle in a muddle field the greater straightforward it extremely is to bathe and the fewer scent there is. i in my opinion do not use the muddle field liners as my cats shred them.

You need to have your husband clean the litter twice a day and wash the pans once a week. Use scoopable litter.

If this isn't feasible, than you should have one pan for every cat plus one extra.
