This is so true. They know us better than anybody else so they know the right buttons to push to get to you. My Mom does this to me...she'll say things to make me feel sorry for her and make me feel guilty because i'm not there enough,etc. Since you are aware that they do this..be prepared and don't play into their game. Stay calm, act like it doesn't bother you and then go somewhere alone and vent..that's what works for me.

The reason for this is because our families are basically the only people in our lives that give unconditional love. With that being said, it also allows us to act our worst around them- because we know they won't leave us or not still love us. A good example is the relationship a mother has with her children. When the child acts out only to the mother, it sometimes, depending on the degree of the behavior, just shows that the bond between them is so stable that the child is comfortable enough to be seen in that manner.
