A puppy got into my back yard, i put signs all over no one has called. It has short brown coat, we call her ginger thats the right color, she has big giant paws, she has greenish eyes or hazel eyes, floppy heavy ears, strong jaws and square nose (her nose is brown), she is really strong built, her tail is not very long but it thick at the butt growing pointy at the tip. when she came her, about 3 weeks ago she looked like she was about 8 weeks old, she didn't look starved, and had a collar on. Since then she is about 2 times the size when she first came here. She a pain in the ***! She wont leave my cats alone, she chases them pins them, then gets mad when they swipe her, and starts barking a them. Anyone have any ideas what kind of dog this is?

Ginger sure sounds like a Stafforshire Terrier or American Pit Bull Terrier...Have you called the shelters in your area? Ads placed in lost and found are free...It would be a shame to put a lot of work and training and love in to her and then have someone take her away....Here are some pics of Staffordshire terrier puppies> http://fastwaterkennel.com/gallery/050321/fullsize/Strelka%20002.jpg

Have her checked to see if shes been microchipped. This is complete negligence on the past owners acct. As soon as I know I'm getting a dog the day or two before I get tags for them to prevent this from happening. She sounds like Wiemeraner or lab. The brown nose and hazel eyes say Wiemeraner. This is in the class of dogs as Labs are. Shes barking at your cat to try to get her to move so she may chase it. She wants to play and cant chase her if she doesnt run. The cat is not playing fair in your dogs eyes...LOL. This is all puppy behavior and you need to work w/her even if you dont plan on keeping her. Its much easier to find her a good home if you have started some training and getting her to be respectful. Good luck in your decisions.

Sounds very much like a pit bull. It sounds like you do not want to keep her until or if the owner can be located. I would recommend you take her to a local animal shelter. They will hold her awhile to give her owners time to find her. Most dog owners know to try calling shelters when a dog goes missing. If the owner does not turn up, the dog has a chance at getting a home with someone who wants her and is better suited to her.

sounds very much like a pitbull...and YES..pits do have floppy ears before they are cropped.
and a lot of people..including myself do not crop a dogs ears.

and the way you desribe the tail...and the nose..it sounds like it is a red nose pit.

if the person who lost it really cared...they would have put a notice in the lost and found in the local paper as well as posters up.

i would go crazy if either one of my pits got lost....and would do just that...along with driving around yelling for them.

hope this helps...lar

just an added note... until you find the owners or a new home... pick up a bottle of "Bitter Apple Spray" and when the dog chews on something you don't want it to...spray it in the mouth and say..NO!!!...and spray on the things it is likely to chew on.

I don't know what kind of dog this is, but you say she has a collar, but obviously no tags. Some people have microchips imbedded in their dog. The Humane Society may be able to check the dog with their records and see if the owner had one put on. She may have gotten away from them and they're looking for her.
Can you put some fliers up?
You know there must be a dog identification website so that you can determine what kind of dog this is.
Good luck.

Maybe a boxer, pit bull or lab? She may just be a mixed breed, sounds really young and in need of love and training. Some dogs have a chip in their body that is a locator and if you take them to the Humane Society they can see if she has one. That would locate her owner. Look at some pictures on the internet of some breeds to see what breed you have found.

There is absolutely no way knowing with the description you're provided.

It could be any number of breeds, or it could be a mutt. It might help if you posted a link to a photo, but if the dog is of mixed origin, it will be just guess as to what mixes.

I suspect that the dog is mixed because reputable breeders would not lose track of their puppies.

You could consult your local vets office. The staff there would be the best bet for identifying breed. Also, you don't sound like you're enjoying being a dog owner. I suggest you try to find her a loving home before long. Grown dogs are harder to place.

I am not sure but it you take it to a vet and ask them they can give you some ideas on what type of dog she is. Also you can put her i another room so she will leave your cats alone if you don't want to do that just let her keep it up sooner or later she will learn to leave the cats alone.

could be a chocolate lab or a mutt of some kind. without tags the dog probably isn't purebred cause most people with purebred pups would keep tags on it with a phone number or some type of identification.
