Depends on how you respond to either. If a pint loosens you up, it can be a great help. If it makes you too loose however, chances are (s)he'll think you're an idiot.
Same goes for the coffee: it can wake you up, heighten your senses. But if the result is that you're acting like you forgot your Ritalin, again (s)he'll think you're an idiot.
See what (s)he orders, and do the same.

Pint - bit more relaxed and there's generally more escape routes from a bar than a coffee shop!

God, I don't know about a pint - what if he/she doesn't drink beer, or were you thinking of a pint of Gin, wine etc. Yeah, go for the booze, coffee's a tad "boring fartish".

if it is a 1st date then maybe a coffee but see what the other persons order first but if you are a girl a pint probaly wouldnt look good and if you were a man theyd probaly think yep beer belly lol

I would say pint, because if the date goes wrong and there not what you expected you could just get blind drunk lol <3

Try a lunch date. Somewhere nice but not too flashy. Save that for later, if you hit it off. Check if she's vegetarian. So many are these days.
Coffee's not a date and not everyone likes pubs.
