When do you think a cult receives the recognition of being a religion. Does the number of believers change the status?

In the earlier days of Christianity, do you think non believers thought Christianity to be a cult?

Most religions are about control, guilt and peer pressure. So, they're all cults to some degree.

Yes, I'm sure that ancient Christianity was considered a "cult" by the Jewish leaders of the day.

I think that hurtful labels like "cults" are generally applied by intolerant people. However, there are some legitimate cases where an organization is truly harmful to its followers, I would consider something like Warren Jeffs' organization to be a "cult".

It WAS a cult. I think age and numbers and a judgment of its morals make it a religion. If it advocates hurting others (like the KKK, which is technically a cult), then it probably won't make it to religion status. At least, as far as I can tell.

Sure. It was considered a cult by the Romans, who left them alone until the numbers got big enough to be threatening.

When truth is found in what people write off as a CULT it is often recognized.









Definition of Cult matters-- if it is a Human LEADER getting the worship!!!!!!!!!!
