EXTREMELY!

It is extremely rude to talk on your cell phone during dinner. Your phone should be on vibrate during dinner or while having a conversation with somebody. Call the person back after dinner.

Yes, it is rude if the call is not an emergency or a truly necessary call. To just chat away with a bud on a call while having dinner with someone, then it is more than rude, it's disrespectful to one's dinner partner, who should be enjoying the attention of the other.

Talking on your telephone either house- or mobile- during dinner, in case you dine alone, may cause you suffocated or choked. And if you were in a company, it would be as rude as whispering to someone. Very rude!

If you are dining with other people, you should focus on them.
If you sense that the call is urgent or from someone difficult to get in touch with, you may answer it (excusing yourself from the table/conversation if possible and speaking in a low tone) and speak briefly with the caller. Explain you are at dinner and offer to call them back as soon as you are done. When you return to the table, apologize to the other people.
if you are on a date, business dinner, or dining with just one other person, turn your phone off! It is extremely rude to leave them alone. If you are in a large group of very close friends or family, they will be more understanding, but it should still be avoided if possible.

Depends if you are on your own or not! If you have company then yes it is rude unless it is urgent or a desperate caller on the other end. Best to excuse yourself and answer in private, better still switch it off then you won't be bothered. We are slaves to the mobile and phone at home - it is something to be obeyed - ring and we must answer it. What a sad state to be in!

YES YES YES! People were not gabbing on land lines whilst trying to eat before mobiles were invented. Dinner time = Family time with my parents, only chance I see my Dad due to work is at meal times. I will carry on the TV off Phones away tradition with my future children.

yes, doing that alienates other people on the table. switch your mobile phone off during dinner and give your full attention to other people, and return missed calls and message after dinner. if you're expecting a very important call that can't wait, put your mobile phone on silent and asked yourself to be excused when it rings
